The Empire State Building was designed by the firm of Shreve, Lamb & Harman, and constructed in only 14 months, from 1930-31. It is 1472 ft (449 meters) high (including a 222 ft, 68 m, high television mast added in 1951. It was the tallest building in the world until 1970.
